Search Guidelines
The database may
be used in a variety of ways.
1. You may choose
to input a search argument by clicking one or more of the drop down
boxes. Be aware that each additional box adds constraints to the
search, and reduces the number of boats that come up in such a
search. If a search is too restrictive, there is a possibility that
no boats meeting the input requirements will be found.
2. You may also
sort entire categories of data by clicking on the labled buttons at
top. For example, clicking on "Water Depth" will display
the working depths for all boats in the database. Likewise, clicking
on "Vessels" will display the boats in alphebetical order.
3. Please note
that the boats are initally displayed in alphabetical order by the
name of the vessel. You must click a button to sort them.
4. Please note
that each drop down box has an "empty" or "null"
space. To clear a constraint from a category, make sure this
"empty" slot is selected in the drop down box.
5. A two people
have reported problems using the database. A missalignment occurs
after several constraints have been made and sorted, and then the
vessel category is sorted again. This action may corrupt the data,
although I cannot duplicate the error. If this missalignment occurs,
make sure the drop down boxes are "empty" and go back and
sort the missaligned category. The database will reset and allow you
to begin your search again.
6. The
"Email" button provides a popup window that allows the user
of the database to contact a specific boat owner.
7. The
"Home" button provides a link to a boat owner's website,
where additional information about a boat may be found.
